CURTIS GRAY JOINS MIAMI FACILITY AS EXECUTIVE VP
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (February 18, 1999) - Curtis Gray, a 17-year veteran of motorsports
promotion with the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, has been named executive vice president
of Homestead-Miami Speedway, LLC, it was announced today by Speedway president Brian
Skuza.
Gray, 41, who most recently held the position of Director of the Winston Cup Series
for Reynolds, joined the company in 1981 as an assistant manager in sports marketing.
He will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Speedway and will
oversee all levels of staffing while reporting to Skuza. He will begin his new role
March 1.
"Curtis' tremendous knowledge of motorsports, including the people involved in
the industry, will be a huge benefit to our company," said Skuza. "With
our inaugural NASCAR Winston Cup Series event later this year and the kickoff of the CART
FedEx Championship Series just five weeks from now, we're excited to have a person of
Curtis' experience join our staff."
Gray is a native of South Florida, and called going home to Miami a perfect
opportunity.
"RJ Reynolds has been a great company to work for, and the decision to leave
there after nearly two decades was very difficult. In order for me to leave, the
opportunity had to be perfect. I hope my involvement in Miami will allow Brian and
his staff to further build awareness of racing in the huge South Florida market.
Brian will also be able to spend more time on the massive expansion projects
currently underway at the Speedway as well as the overall performance of the
business."
Homestead-Miami Speedway opened with the NASCAR Busch Series finale in 1995, and is
a 1.5-mile oval speedway situated on 344 acres, considered by many to be the most
beautiful racing facility in the country. Its South Beach look and feel plays host
annually to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series' Florida Dodge Dealers 400, CART's Marlboro
Grand Prix of Miami Presented by Toyota, the USRRC's sports car extravaganza, the NASCAR
Busch Series' Miami 300 and in 1999 the inaugural NASCAR Winston Cup Series Pennzoil 400.
Located just 20 minutes south of Miami International Airport off the Florida
Turnpike, Homestead-Miami Speedway is easily accessible by air traffic and by car to the
nearly five million residents of the region as well as all international countries.
Homestead-Miami Speedway, LLC is a partnership between three companies.
International Speedway Corporation and Penske Motorsports, Inc., each hold a 45 percent
interest while Huizenga Holdings Inc., maintains a 10 percent share of the operation.
