GREG MOORE LOOKING FOR VICTORY IN GRAND PRIX OF MIAMI
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (Feb. 12, 1999) -- Greg Moore ended last year's Grand Prix of Miami
Presented by Toyota only inches from Michael Andretti's rear wing. When the Canadian
returns to the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex for the March 19-21 weekend, he
will be looking to end Andretti's two-year winning streak and climb to the top rung of the
podium. |

"Last year should have been our race but we had an air
jack failure on our first pit stop," Moore recalled. "But we dominated the race.
We killed them all in the first half, and after that it was catch-up. If we had a good pit
stop, I think we might have had a lot better race. Still, second's not that bad, but this
year we're trying to get first."
Moore was second fastest in the recent CART Spring Training, with a best lap of
215.813 mph, just behind Players Forsythe Racing teammate Patrick Carpentier, who ran a
lap of 216.617 mph.
"We got to learn what our car liked at Spring Training," explained Moore,
who tested on the Homestead road course but not the oval over the winter. "The first
day we were fifth, and then the second day we were second."
Moore is the track record holder on Homestead's 1.5-mile oval, running a lap fo
24.85 seconds, an incredible 217.5 mph, during last year's qualifying.
This year, he feels the speeds will be even faster.
"I think it could be a 24.7 (218.6) or 24.8 (217.7), depending if it's windy
or not," Moore explained.
But while Moore and Carpentier were both lightning quick during Spring Training,
speed was not their main goal of the two-day session.
"Instead of doing some quick runs, we decided to get the car ready for the
race," he explained. "I think we're going to be really, really stong. I'm
looking forward to the race."
