Rookie
Nicastro Snares Pole in Third Barber
Dodge Pro Series start
Rio de Janiero
Brazil, native Andre Nicastro will sit on the pole for Saturday's
second round of the Barber Dodge Pro Series. Nicastro blitzed the
1.421-mile modified oval at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in
0:42.950 sec. for an average speed of 118.352 mph, and thereby
establishing the new benchmark for qualifying at the Homestead
circuit.
Nicastro's
Coppertone Reynard Barber Dodge worked well for him throughout the
session, as he felt comfortable with it from the onset.
"I am very
happy," he said after apologizing for his broken English.
"I am a rookie and my focus this year is to be the best
rookie."
He seems to be off
to a good start.
Peter Boss held
onto his provisional pole throughout the first half of the session
until Nicastro relegated him to second. His earlier time of
0:43.000 sec. withstood the onslaught from 23 other drivers who
all but Nicastro unsuccessfully attempted to dislodge the Rhode
Islander from pole.
"In the first
session I caught a good draft through turns 1 and 2 and into 3.
You need a good draft around here and I didn't get a good one this
session," Boss remarked.
Remaining in the
third starting position was Jon Fogarty. He had held pole briefly
during the first qualifying session, but was only able to shave
0.06 sec. off his earlier time.
"I needed that
last draft," Fogarty commented. "Ideally I'd like to
work with these guys (Nicastro and Boss during the race) and get
away from everyone and have our own race. I'm happy to be ahead of
Nilton (Rossoni) and Michael (Valiante)."
The 40-minute
Barber Dodge race will start following final qualifying for the
CART FedEx Series at 3:45 p.m. est.
