GREASED LIGHTNING
150 QUALIFYING NOTES
MIKE FRANKLIN (No. 7 Spitzer Dodge/Archer Painting Dodge) "Yeah, we definitely
surprised ourselves. We probably picked up a half-second from what we ran in practice.
Running in front of this many people, as well as this being my hometown, put a lot of
pressure on myself. I face that everywhere we go, but especially here. I didn't think the
car
ran that quick, but the guys came across the radio and told me I ran an .80 on the first
lap and a .70 on the second lap, and I nearly fell out of the car. I'm pumped up. I'm
starting up front with a bunch of good, quality cars. I'll be able to race with some good,
quality guys like (Rich) Bickle. We're pretty happy."
SEAN STUDER (No. 98 Old El Paso Mexican Style Foods/Hi-C Chevrolet) "It was a
picture-perfect lap. I couldn't ask for a better lap, and I really didn't expect it. The
second time is better than the first time, of course, and I've just got to thank the crew.
I'd like to dedicate this pole to my long, long friend Chris Helms, who died in a car
accident a couple weeks ago. He was on my crew last year, and I'd like to dedicate this to
him. I wanted my pole record back, and I did it. I feel like I've got a place in history
here now that Winston Cup is coming here. I think it'll hold up, but if it doesn't, then
that's the way it goes."
